Upon, this, the king of France wrote to fir Bertrand du Guefclin, who was in Aquitaine with the duke of Anjou, to order him, as foon as he fhould have read the letters, to fet out for France, as he intended to employ him in another part of his kingdom.
Pope Urban V. came back about this time to Avignon, after having refided nearly four years at Rome. He returned in the hope of making peace between the two kings : for this renewal of war was very difpleafing to him. All thofe of Avig-non and the country around it were very happy at the return of the pope, as they thought it would be more advantageous for them.
We will now fay how the prince of Wales car-ried on his affairs.
