parafions to fulfil their engagement. This tourna-ment had been proclaimed in many countries, but: efpecially in England, where it had caufed much furprife, and excited feveral knights and fquires, who were fond of -adventures and deeds of arms, to confer on the fubjeft. Some faid they would be blame worthy, if they did not crofs the fca, when the diftance was fo Abort to Calais, pay a vifit to thefe knights and tilt with them. I will name thofe who were tnoft eager in thefe con?erfa-tions. The firft was fir John Holland, earl of Huntingdon, fir John Courtenay *, fir John Trai&onf, fir John GouloufFre, fir John Rou&lff ' fir Thomas Scorabonne§, fir William Clifeton ||, fir William Clinton, fir William Taillebourg^f, fir Godfrey de Seta, fir William de Haquenay *% fir Joïin Yobeas, fir John d'Ambreticourt, fir John Beaumont and many more, to the amount of up-wards of one hundred knights* and fquires, who (aid,—c Let us prepare ourfelves to attend thi* tohrnament near Calais ; for thefe French knights o% hold it that they may have our company :
